I am a member of the research project The First Five Words: Multilingualism and the Grammar of Language Choice, funded by the Swiss National Foundation (SNF) and directed by Prof. Lorenza Mondada (University of Basel) and Prof. Elwys De Stefani (KU Leuven). Drawing on Multimodal Conversation Analysis and Interactional Linguistics, the project studies how unacquainted persons spontaneously engage in interaction in multilingual cities in Switzerland and Belgium. The prime focus of my individual work is on the investigation of encounters between unacquainted persons walking their dogs in public space. With the aid of multimodal analyses of audio-visual corpora, I study how participants create interactional spaces in an emergent and dynamic way, considering the dogs as active participants in the interaction.
Furthermore, I actively participate in the project Human Sociality in the Age of Covid-19, studying how social relationships between persons coming and acting together in everyday life and work are changing during the Covid-19 crisis.
FIELDS OF RESEARCH
